What presents to give a bookworm?

A girl sitting on a couch, on hand a book holding in front of her face which shows only her eyes. Background shows a lamp.
“I didn’t have much to say to anybody but kept to myself and my books. With my eyes closed, I would touch a familiar book and draw it’s fragrance deep inside me. This was enough to make me happy.”~ Norwegian Wood

I should have titled this something like “10 gift ideas to give a book lover,” but there are thousands of options out there, you know. From childhood, I used to read books most of the time thriller detective stories, mostly hiding from my mom. I remember making a small corner with pillows on my bed and sitting there for hours with “Tin Goyend” by Rakib Hasan, then telling all those stories to my cousin after she had come from school. Mom used to get angry, so at night, I would read under the blanket using a phone torchlight.

Don’t gift a book to book lovers. Believe me, I’m saying this from experience. I once gave a friend a book as a present with loads of excitement, then found out he already had that one. So, what can you give? Let’s see…

Book accessories:

I try to collect unique bookmarks and pens, but unique items are rare in local stationery stores where I live. Why don’t you do that for the bookworms around you?

Personalized bookmarks:

If I were given custom-made bookmarks, I wouldn’t mind. It’s amazing to enrich the collection. Magnetic bookmarks, bookmarks with favorite quotes, or personalized shapes are creative gift ideas.

Pens & highlighters:

If someone loves reading, they usually have a close connection with pens, as they write down favorite quotes, summaries, book tracks, and journals. Give them fancy pens like ink pens, fountain pens, or highlighters to mark their books.

Book stamps & sticky notes:

I think those who love journaling would enjoy unique bookstamps made especially for them. I love annotating, so I’d recommend adding some transparent sticky notes to your gift box.

Customized Bookplates:

To own a book demands a symbol. Bookplates can be personalized and used in their books and make the books unique with the sign. Elegant and personalized, these make any book collection feel special.

Personal Library Kit:

Includes stamps, cards, and stickers to organize a personal library. The old-fashioned book tracking is now trending again. Fear of losing books, or losing tracks are common among home library desirer. This can be great to help them with the organizing process.

Resin Page Holder:

Don’t want to use both hands to hold the book. The page holders do the job. A tiny, beautiful tool that keeps the book open with one hand.

Make a gift box with all these stationery items and send it to them. One last thing, add a unique notebook to the box.

Cozy vibes:

As I previously mentioned, I struggled to read at night in my childhood with just a torch. Gift a lamp and make their reading time easy and cozy. There are customized book lights and lamps on Amazon, Etsy, and other sites.

Lights & lamps:

Lighting is absolutely necessary for the perfect cozy ambiance. Sometimes, dim lights and lamps encourage you to go under a blanket with a cup of tea and a book. So, yes, these matter. Cute, decorative lights and lamps are available on amazon, Etsy, and other market places.

Scented Candles:

We book lovers don’t just read books; we enjoy that time like a leisure, me-time. Scented candles are great for making those hours enjoyable. Think about it!

Temperature control mug:

Suppose you’re reading a fantasy book with a cup of hot coffee—wouldn’t you want your coffee to stay hot longer and extend your reading time in a cozy corner? Give your giftee such a mug and extend the time.

Reading chair & pillows:

Some of us have a home library, so adding a reading chair to the library is a thoughtful present. And pillows? Who can stay seated all day with a book in hand? Some pillows are designed to keep us comfortable while enjoying a thrilling story.

Blanket:

If you’re thinking about chairs and pillows, why not a blanket? Complete the cozy gift set with a blanket. 😁

Subscription to book clubs and audiobooks:

A subscription to book clubs like NYRB Classics, Book of the Month, Greenlight Bookstore, First Editions Club, or services like Audible and Libby for audiobooks are gifts no bookworm would refuse.

Special Editions:

I know it’s hypocritical to add this after saying not to give books, but I don’t consider special editions just books; they’re ornaments for my library. Even if they’ve already read the book, a special edition they don’t have would definitely impress them.

Tidy up their books:

In this era, ebook readers and audiobook listeners are increasing, but that doesn’t mean physical books are declining.

Wall shelf:

Wall shelves are common now because of space limitations. Help your friend keep their books organized.

Bookcase/Bookshelf:

Give or make them something like this so that their homeless, scattered books get settled.

Bookends:

I find bookends really stylish. There are so many amazing designs to make a simple book stack look stylish and creative.

Something to use:

Some items are useful for a book lover’s daily life. You can think of giving something like:

Kindle:

We equally enjoy physical books and e-books, depending on the place and situation.

Mug with personalized book quotes:

A lovely way to enjoy tea and coffee daily.

Bookish Pins:

Bookish enamel pins are themed, customizable options for bookworms. The genre, or the book they like, it can be customized according to that. Looks stylish when used on bags as accessories.

Book covers:

These can be especially useful for clean freaks, even more so after the COVID pandemic, to keep books neat. There are two types of readers, one type is those who kind of eats their book,(not literally!) like annotation, mand arkings. The other types treat the books like a child. Book covers are for the later ones.

Customized hoodie or T-shirt:

A hoodie or T-shirt printed with their favorite book cover, quotes, or anything nerdy and funny could be a creative gift idea.

Bookish Socks:

Socks that scream “book lover”, sound interesting. Book nerds like everything related to their interests. Like customized t-shirts, socks can grab their attention as well.

Pop Socket:

A phone grip that shows their bookish love, with some message like “ just one more chapter”, “lost in words” or something related to their reading styles can make the pop socket even more appealing.

Screen Cleaning Wipes:

Perfect for Kindle and glasses-wearing readers. If your nerdy friend can be tidy and likes to clean up often, then this is a thoughtful gift for them.

Kindle Page Turner:

This is amazing. A small Bluetooth-connected gadget that makes it easier to flip pages hands-free. With a remote control, your giftee can use the Kindle without bothering to touch it.

Book Nook:

The perfect aesthetic for a home library. More looks like a decor accessory item. Also, this miniature, magical world that fits between bookshelves is very fun to make.

Ideas are never-ending. Give your loved one a useful present with a personal touch. It’s not just about the gift itself but the thought behind it that will make a bookworm’s heart melt.

You can add a little note with a romantic book quote for your partner, it’s always nice to have that.

For a book lover friend something like:

Hey [Your Friend’s Name],

I came across this quote and thought it was perfect for you: “A book is a gift you can open again and again.” – Garrison Keillor.

Though I am not into books like you, I do enjoy your blabbing about the stories. So, I got something for you. Can’t wait to hear what you think about it!

What’re you reading now?
